Dear all,
Attached are photographs of some beached shells from Singapore, which have similar external appearance.
I would appreciate any suggestions for identifications (To me, they are all various forms of Dentiovula rutherfordiana. Thanks in advance!
Specimen A (11.0 mm) appears to be Dentiovula rutherfordiana on account of the
faint yellow line encircling the margins that sometimes exists on this species.
Specimen B (7.6mm), C (8.8mm), and D (7.5mm) appear to resemble the 'nomen dubium' Cuspivolva narinosa,
but I am unsure as they also resemble small rounded Dentiovula rutherfordiana from the Philippines.

Specimen E (7.5mm) and F (8.1mm) appear to resemble Dentiovula rutherfordiana
as they are more elongated and have a more distinct dorsal keel than B, C, and D.

Dear Felix,
I came across a similar shell on the popular gastropods.com illustrating a picture of what appears to be a shell of similar shape identified as Dentiovula lorenzi. (see http://www.gastropods.com/0/Shell_66920.shtml). It mentions 'nov. spec. in lit.' but no literature was cited.
Care to clarify if the status of the above mentioned beached shells has been decided on? Is it a recently described species?
Thanks for your opinion! |
